Jade’s Daylight Savings Survival Guide

Howzit hangin’, Bratzies?

Jade here, reminding all my rad BBFs it’s time to SPRING FORWARD into Daylight Savings time!!

Super early on Sunday, March 10, while we are still in dreamland, the clocks will jump forward an hour. This means we’ll get one hour less of sleep this weekend. Uber lame, right?

It also means the sun will rise and set an hour later, causing the mornings to be darker and the evenings to be lighter longer. If you’re like me, this change can totes mess with your sked. But have no fear, fellow Bratzies, I’ve got all the tips you need to get through this change unscathed. Introducing:

Jade’s Day Light Savings Survival Guide!!!

DARKER MORNINGS:

-       CHANGE YOUR WAKE-UP TUNES – If you have a crazy-hard time waking up for school when it’s dark outside, change your alarm clock radio to play a more upbeat station. Pick something that plays fun pop or dubstep. If your iPod hooks up to your alarm clock, make a bumpin’ exercise mix, with songs like, “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift. It’s sure to get your body moving and your bottom out of bed!

-       NATURAL MAKE-UP PALATE – Applying make-up in the dark can be super tricky. If your bathroom doesn’t have good light, try switching your color palate to neutrals. That way, if you accidentally put on too much eye shadow, no one will be able to tell!

-       PRE-PICK CLOTHES – It is totes easy to clash your colors when getting dressed in the dark. Don’t worry about embarrassing color coordinating confusion! Take advantage of the sun being out later and pick out your outfits the night before. You may even get to sleep in longer now that you won’t waste time staring at your closet, trying to decide what to wear!

-       FLASHLIGHT BEDAZZLEMENT- If you will be walking to school in the dark, try bedazzling a flashlight. This way you will be safe, and have an awesome looking accessory to go with your outfit. For a little extra fun, you can put a colored gel over the light to make it shine your signature color!

BRIGHTER EVENINGS:

-       BRING SUNSCREEN – After-school sports, like the cheerleading squad, will now be practicing in the sunlight. Be sure to bring and apply sunscreen!

-       BEDAZZLED BOTTLES -  Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! If the sun is beating down on your bod, it is a Bratzie must to replenish the H2O. Bedazzle a water bottle with your name and signature color. Even when you’re sweaty, you can still look stylin’!

-       RUNNING SHOES – Time to dust off the old running shoes. Now that it’s lighter longer, it should be safe to go for an after-school run or walk with your friends. Ask your parents first!

Dancing Daffodils

Namaste, Bratzies!

I’m blooming with excitement! Not only is March my birthday month, but its official flower is my personal fave: the wild daffodil!

I dig the wild daffodil for rivers of reasons. It’s bright, cheery and even though it’s usually yellow and white, the flower can be found in my signature color, pink! Also, scientists found a natural compound in the daffodil bulb that may help treat brain cancer! Bringing cheer and helping change the world totally makes the wild daffodil an honorary Real Bratz flower!

What I heart most about wild daffodils is that they energize my creativity by popping up out of nowhere. Just like my story ideas! I could totes chillax in a meadow of wild daffodils and write in my journal all day!

I’m not the only Real Bratz inspired by wild daffodils. English author, poet and diarist, Dorothy Mae Ann Wordsworth, wrote about stumbling upon tumbling daffodils while walking though the woods with her brother, famous poet William Wordsworth. Inspired by his sister’s journal entry, William Wordsworth wrote a super-famous poem about daffodils dancing in the breeze.

You can read the totally awesome poem here: https://wordsworth.org.uk/daffodils.html

Can you Bratzies tell me what your favorite flower is? Or tell me about the greatness your fave flower inspires in you!

Youngest Oscar Nominee EVER!!

Yo, Bratzies! Sasha here, and I’m so totally stoked for the Oscars this weekend! I heart glamtastic productions like the Academy Awards. Any excuse for my girlz to hang together and get dolled up like the stars, am I right?

This year, I’m particularly pumped for the Best Actress category. Did you Bratzies know that Quvenzhané Wallis is the youngest person EVER to be nominated for an Oscar? It’s true!

Quvenzhané followed her passion by auditioning for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild when she was only five, even though the audition called for six-year-olds! Quvenzhané said her character “does what is right and she is fearless. And that’s what I did (by coming to) the audition.”  Way to go, fellow Bratzie!

Quvenzhané may be a scene-stealer, like me, but when she grows up, Quvenzhané wants to be a dentist so she can help people smile. I just know she will rock anything she puts her mind to!

Quvenhané had an awesome goal and found her own unique way to go for it. That’s what makes her a Real Bratz girl!

Tell me, Bratzies, have you ever done something fearless to pursue your passion?

Grammy Review

Sasha here, and I was loving EVERY MINUTE of the Grammys this last weekend. I was so happy to see Adele take home the win on Best Pop Solo Performance! To think…she started out her music dreams wanting to be a TALENT SCOUT, looking for the next great singer instead of being one! Her star started rising when a friend of hers posted a video of her singing on MySpace. It just goes to show, true talent will always find a way to shine!

It was also so cool to see Kimbra win more than once for her duet with Gotye. “Somebody That I Used to Know” is definitely one of my fave songs. I found out Kimbra had been writing songs since age 10! Did you know she and Gotye recorded that winning hit in her bedroom with almost no equipment? How amazing is that? I record the songs I write in my bedroom at home, too…maybe someday it’ll be me with the hit song!

Who were your favorite ladies and gentlemen at the Grammys? If you were nominated for a Grammy, what amazing talent would they be recognizing in you?

Keep Winning!

Friends Stand Up!

Cloe here, and we need to totally talk about a super important part about being a Real Bratz.

Real Bratz know how much being a friend to everyone means. It’s totally cool to stick by your girlfriends when people are being messed up to them…but what about the people you don’t know at school, or in your neighborhood? We Bratz girls feel that if you see a new kid at school having trouble, a neighborhood kid getting bullied, or someone you’ve known for years sitting alone and sad – reach out to them! Help the new kid find their homeroom. Stick up for the kid being bullied – tell an adult the second you see the bullying, and stand strong by the person being bullied. Ask the person sitting alone if they want to join you at your table. Friendship doesn’t stop with your BFFs. Real Bratz girls know to be that friend to anyone who is in need, and that no one should be alone when they need help, a hug, or someone to stand up for them.

Have you ever stood up for someone being bullied, or been a friend to someone during a totally rough time? Share your stories with us!

Your Friend Forever,

First Lady Firsts

Happy Friday, Bratzies! Yasmin here, and I was doing some reading on the President’s Inauguration last month and the way cool dress Michelle Obama wore to the Inaugural Ball.  I found out that she’s the first Democratic First Lady to wear red to the Inaugural Ball in at LEAST a hundred years! I thought that totally fit her, though, because she’s done a lot of firsts since her husband has been President. Did you know Michelle Obama planted the first vegetable garden in the White House in over sixty years?

Michelle Obama isn’t the only First Lady with firsts. Did you know Hillary Clinton was the first First Lady with a postgraduate degree and her own office in the West Wing? Or that Laura Bush was the first non-president to deliver the weekly presidential radio address, and spoke on female equality across the globe? I think it’s pretty awesome that these ladies worked just as hard as our Presidents to make a difference in not only the United States, but the world.

Have you ever done something that your friends or family had never done before you? Let’s hear about your fabulous strides to set the bar higher, Real Bratz!

Happy Weekending!

It’s Never Too Early To Lead

Cloe here, Bratzies, and I’m super excited today to see that, with the five women inaugurated into the United States Senate this month, there are now more women serving in the Senate than have ever served before in US History. What’s even cooler is that 70% of those women are former Girl Scouts. That means these women were learning how to help their fellow man and be strong leaders when they were our age!

What I like the most about this is that it proves that it’s never too soon to start being a leader, or to reach out and help your community. I plan to start helping out by volunteering with the Special Olympics this year, and put my love for sports to a good use by empowering the athletes I will work with. Maybe someday, it’ll be ME getting sworn in to help make the United States a better place.

What have you done to help your school, community, or country? What would you like to do to help?

Talk To You Later,

2013 NYE Resolutions

Bratz here to talk about 2013 resolutions for 2013! This seems to be something that everybody (especially our parents) always talks about at the end of every year. The way we understand it people pick a few things they’d like to improve on, do or do without for the next year and then they try really really really hard to stick to these goals. We think making resolutions for 2013 is a great idea, so we’re going to do it too. Here are some resolutions that we’re all going to set for ourselves –

  1. Spend more time happy and less time sad
  2. Smile more to people at school
  3. See something, say something – it is NOT Ok for people to be bullied
  4. Make the effort to get better grades at school
  5. Play outside more. Be active!
  6. Always be a friend – there is no need for enemies in life
  7. Hug our moms & dads more
  8. Read one book per month (not including school required books, silly friends)
  9. Drink more water and less soda
  10. When given the choice, always be kind

Will you join us in setting goals for 2013 with NYE Resolutions? Tell us what some of your NYE Resolutions are in a comment below!

Wishing all of you a very safe and fun New Year’s Eve! Bring in the New Year with a big smile because life is beautiful…and so are you!

Happy [Almost] 2013

Be Natural, Beauty!

Cloe on the Trends Blog today to talk about natural beauty. You all have it, Bratzies! Don’t cover it up with tons of makeup, instead let it shine through like the ray of sunshine you are! Makeup sure is a lot of fun to play with and wear, but you don’t have to wear tons of it to be pretty. I think the purpose of makeup is to highlight the pretty features you already have!

Here are a few simple makeup rules I follow to keep my natural beauty –

  1. Easy on the eyeliner – there is no need for all that black around your eyes. Try to use as little (or none) as possible
  2. Keep it simple – If you decide to wear eye shadow for a day, don’t wear lipstick (instead use a clear gloss or chapstick). If you want to have a bright lip (like pink or red), skip eye shadow for the day
  3. Give the natural look a try – save makeup for special occasions and not every day. Consider it the same as a new birthday or fancy dress in your closet. Only put it on sometimes.
  4. Face makeup is not necessary – you are probably too young to wear face makeup. I know I am. My mom doesn’t let me wear it because she says it’s a bad habit to start when young and I don’t need to cover up (or ruin) my pretty skin.
  5. ALWAYS wash your face – at the end of every day, be sure to clean off all the makeup and then give an extra wash on the face to keep skin healthy and glowing. Never, ever go to sleep with makeup

Personally, I love my bright blue eyes and would never want to put lots of eyeliner around it. What do you love about your face? Share positive comments about why you don’t need to wear so much makeup in a comment.

Be Natural, Beautiez.
