First Lady Firsts

Happy Friday, Bratzies! Yasmin here, and I was doing some reading on the President’s Inauguration last month and the way cool dress Michelle Obama wore to the Inaugural Ball.  I found out that she’s the first Democratic First Lady to wear red to the Inaugural Ball in at LEAST a hundred years! I thought that totally fit her, though, because she’s done a lot of firsts since her husband has been President. Did you know Michelle Obama planted the first vegetable garden in the White House in over sixty years?

Michelle Obama isn’t the only First Lady with firsts. Did you know Hillary Clinton was the first First Lady with a postgraduate degree and her own office in the West Wing? Or that Laura Bush was the first non-president to deliver the weekly presidential radio address, and spoke on female equality across the globe? I think it’s pretty awesome that these ladies worked just as hard as our Presidents to make a difference in not only the United States, but the world.

Have you ever done something that your friends or family had never done before you? Let’s hear about your fabulous strides to set the bar higher, Real Bratz!

Happy Weekending!

Beyond The Red Carpet

Sasha here, Bratzies, and I had such a great time watching all the amazing ladies at the Golden Globes this month! It was so great to see women like Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence win for some INCREDIBLE performances, and I got so see my favorite singer, Adele, win for “Skyfall!” I was so thrilled to see her crazy good song in the new James Bond film get an award, I actually screamed!

I decided to read up on a few of the winning ladies after the Awards, and found out that so many of them have taken some pretty amazing chances and stances in their lives. Jessica Chastain, for example, is a strong vegan and anti-animal cruelty activist, inspired by her mother, who was a vegan chef. Jennifer Lawrence graduated from high school two years early with a 3.9 average in order to begin a career in acting. Adele originally wanted to specialize in talent scouting and hoped to launch other people’s careers before her music was discovered on a friend’s MySpace page. These women are so much more than the glamor and glitz of Hollywood, it blows my mind!

What are some of the chances and stances you take? Where do you think your passions will ultimately take you?

Catch you later, Bratzies!

It’s Never Too Early To Lead

Cloe here, Bratzies, and I’m super excited today to see that, with the five women inaugurated into the United States Senate this month, there are now more women serving in the Senate than have ever served before in US History. What’s even cooler is that 70% of those women are former Girl Scouts. That means these women were learning how to help their fellow man and be strong leaders when they were our age!

What I like the most about this is that it proves that it’s never too soon to start being a leader, or to reach out and help your community. I plan to start helping out by volunteering with the Special Olympics this year, and put my love for sports to a good use by empowering the athletes I will work with. Maybe someday, it’ll be ME getting sworn in to help make the United States a better place.

What have you done to help your school, community, or country? What would you like to do to help?

Talk To You Later,

Bratz and the Big Screen

Watching movies in the theaters and at home with the family is the best! This year there were some really cool movies like The Secret World of Arrietty, Hotel Transylvania, Frankenweenie and Ice Age: Continental Drift…but the movie that really stood out to us was Dr. Suess’ The Lorax. It’s based on one of our very favorite childhood books by Dr. Seuss.

One of the quotes that we Bratz girls took with us from the book and film, “It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become,” is super important to us. We love keeping an eye to the future and working hard to make everything that we have into something totally amazing in the days to come.

What were your fave movies this year, and what lessons did you take from them?

See you in the theater!

Rainy Day Hair

Rainy days can be the ultimate bad hair day! If hair is curly, the rain sometimes causes frizz. If hair is straight in the rain, our beautiful strands can fall flat. What a bummer!

As the resident fashionista, I’m here to talk how to perk up that rainy day hair in a jiffy. There are so many things a Bratzie can do!

I’m always a fan of a messy ponytail, pigtails or the uber trendy top-knot. If you’re really feelin’ down about your hair because of the rain, I suggest trying a hat (like the beret I’m wearing in the photo). There are also really cute slouchy beanies, headbands (try a thick winter, knitted one) or even go sporty with a baseball cap.

Don’t let a little wet hair bring ya down!

What hairstyles do you try in the rain? Tell me in a comment, I’m always looking for new tips!

2013 NYE Resolutions

Bratz here to talk about 2013 resolutions for 2013! This seems to be something that everybody (especially our parents) always talks about at the end of every year. The way we understand it people pick a few things they’d like to improve on, do or do without for the next year and then they try really really really hard to stick to these goals. We think making resolutions for 2013 is a great idea, so we’re going to do it too. Here are some resolutions that we’re all going to set for ourselves –

  1. Spend more time happy and less time sad
  2. Smile more to people at school
  3. See something, say something – it is NOT Ok for people to be bullied
  4. Make the effort to get better grades at school
  5. Play outside more. Be active!
  6. Always be a friend – there is no need for enemies in life
  7. Hug our moms & dads more
  8. Read one book per month (not including school required books, silly friends)
  9. Drink more water and less soda
  10. When given the choice, always be kind

Will you join us in setting goals for 2013 with NYE Resolutions? Tell us what some of your NYE Resolutions are in a comment below!

Wishing all of you a very safe and fun New Year’s Eve! Bring in the New Year with a big smile because life is beautiful…and so are you!

Happy [Almost] 2013

Be Natural, Beauty!

Cloe on the Trends Blog today to talk about natural beauty. You all have it, Bratzies! Don’t cover it up with tons of makeup, instead let it shine through like the ray of sunshine you are! Makeup sure is a lot of fun to play with and wear, but you don’t have to wear tons of it to be pretty. I think the purpose of makeup is to highlight the pretty features you already have!

Here are a few simple makeup rules I follow to keep my natural beauty –

  1. Easy on the eyeliner – there is no need for all that black around your eyes. Try to use as little (or none) as possible
  2. Keep it simple – If you decide to wear eye shadow for a day, don’t wear lipstick (instead use a clear gloss or chapstick). If you want to have a bright lip (like pink or red), skip eye shadow for the day
  3. Give the natural look a try – save makeup for special occasions and not every day. Consider it the same as a new birthday or fancy dress in your closet. Only put it on sometimes.
  4. Face makeup is not necessary – you are probably too young to wear face makeup. I know I am. My mom doesn’t let me wear it because she says it’s a bad habit to start when young and I don’t need to cover up (or ruin) my pretty skin.
  5. ALWAYS wash your face – at the end of every day, be sure to clean off all the makeup and then give an extra wash on the face to keep skin healthy and glowing. Never, ever go to sleep with makeup

Personally, I love my bright blue eyes and would never want to put lots of eyeliner around it. What do you love about your face? Share positive comments about why you don’t need to wear so much makeup in a comment.

Be Natural, Beautiez.

Satchel Style

Hey there, Bratzies! Cloe here, and if you’re like me, you need a SERIOUS purse to hold all your makeup, your cell phone, journal, and anything else that could solve any possible issues at school, the mall, or even a dance! This Fall, the best bag there is to handle…well, EVERYTHING…is the stylin’ satchel bag.

Somewhere between a clutch and a shoulder bag, the satchel was made to be carried low by the handles, or worn high close to the body and around the shoulder. These bags are seriously roomy. I can fit my whole life in one of these, and thanks to its rounder shape, it doesn’t look bulky or clunky.

Plus, since it’s designed to be carried or worn close at hand, it’ll take less time to grab your cell phone out of it to put in a cute boy’s number!

Try coordinating the color of your satchel with the primary color of your accessories, such as your belt, shoes, or scarves – it’ll enhance those small doses of shade on your body and really make them POP! What would YOU put in your satchel before leaving the house?

Fall Into Summer

A cute floral Summer dress like this can be totally Fall-worthy with just the right accessories…swap out those heels for some ankle boots, and rock a dark turtleneck underneath!

Hey there, Bratzies! Yasmin here, and I don’t know about you, but I am SO not ready to stop wearing some of the cool clothes that I bought for the Summer! Just because it’s Autumn doesn’t mean our fun in the sun outfits have to “Fall” out of our closet.

It’s all about pairing some breezy-weather items with our tanning outfits. Got a cool silk tanktop? Wear that with some cool skinny jeans, high heels, and some big jewelry.

Still want to rock that floral-print sun dress? Add some ankle boots and a black turtleneck around you to tone down the Summer attitude into Fall cool.

Still want to show your legs in some cute jean shorts? Pair it with a motorcycle jacket and a long-sleeved dark-colored top.

It’s all about taking the best of both seasons and making it timeless! What Fall fashions do YOU plan to pair with your Summer classics?

Smart Style

See how a little preppy houndstooth pattern on my pants gives the outfit an edge without overpowering it? Give it a shot, schoolgirl!

Hello to all my Bratzie girls! Cloe here, and I’m getting ready to shop for some cool new plaid skirts so I can be prepared to go preppy!

The newest Fall trend calls for us ladies to start breaking out the school uniform-type clothes and accessories, such as cardigans, vests, knee socks, argyles, plaids, thick-framed glasses, and loafers–but with a stylish twist!

Try incorporating a preppy-type pattern or item into your usual outfits, like a houndstooth skirt or pants, or some argyle knee-socks with your favorite skirts.

It’s so awesome that dressing like you’re going to school can look so fabulous outside of school! What kind of prep-tacular accessories or clothes do you plan to try out?

That’s all for now…stay looking SMART, Bratzie girls!
